Loading Rate Dependence of Rock Strength Under Triaxial Compression

چکیده

Knowledge regarding the time-dependent behavior of rocks is essential to estimate long-term deformation and stability underground structures. The rock strength increases with increasing loading rate. However, rate dependence in postfailure regions under confining pressure remains unclear. In this study, triaxial compression tests were conducted on four types examine both peak regions. Results demonstrate that an increase residual a tenfold strain was approximately proportional 4% strength. Furthermore, increased at obtained results applicable all sample can be easily employed for improving constitutive equations. Finally, effect mechanism discussed.

Cumulative Fatigue Damage Under stepwise Tension-Compression Loading

Rock structures are subjected to cyclic tension-compression loading due to a blasting, earthquake, traffic and injection-production in underground storage case. Therefore study the fatigue behavior of rock samples under this type of loading is required. In this study, the accumulated fatigue damage for a Green Onyx rock sample which consisted of only one mineral composition with two-step high-l...

Quasi-static fault growth and cracking in homogeneous brittle rock under triaxial compression using acoustic emission monitoring

This paper describes the localization of deformation acceleration in the period prior to dynamic failure in hornblende schist rock under triaxial compression using acoustic emission (AE) monitoring. Rather than stabilize the failure process by controlling axial stress to maintain a constant rate of AE (for monitoring AE hypocenters) as in previous works [e.g., Lockner et al., 1991], we have ins...

Spall strength of a zirconium-based bulk metallic glass under shock-induced compression-and-shear loading

We present results of a series of plate-impact experiments conducted to understand spall threshold in a zirconium-based bulk metallic glass (BMG), Zr41.25Ti13.75Ni10Cu12.5Be22.5, following normal shock-induced compression and combined compression-and-shear loading. The experiments were conducted using a 82.5 mm bore single-stage gas-gun. A multibeam VALYN VISAR was used to measure the particle–...
